Our Board of Directors
Ken Hanson: Board Chair/Co-founder- Ken started in education with his B.S. in Comprehensive Science and then
M.A. in Secondary School Administration, both from St Cloud State University. Over the years of his career Ken has been a science teacher, principal and superintendent of several schools in Central Minnesota. He recently retired
from St Paul Schools where he had served for several years as Assistant Principal at Central High School. khanson@reamn.org
Jody Hurlbut: Treasurer- Jody is an accountant and brings experience in project management, tax accounting and business analysis. He is a certified accountant and has a B.S. in Applied Management from National College. Jody’s
family lives on the west side of St. Paul and his son attends River’s Edge. jhurlbut@reamn.org
David Melvin:
Dave teaches Humanities at River’s Edge. He is currently completing a Master’s in Education degree at the University
of Minnesota. Dave’s experience includes teaching and serving on the board at a local charter high school. dmelvin@reamn.org
Bill McKechnie: Vice Chair- Bill brings to the board extensive experience from the worlds of finance, law and formal education, together with a strong interest in outdoor recreation. He is also an Outward Bound alumnus. Bill earned
a BA from the military academy The Citadel, MA and JD in Law from the U. of N. Dakota. bmckechnie@reamn.org
Jeanne Morris:
Secretary- Jeanne brings legal expertise to the board, having earned her JD from William Mitchell College of Law.
She is an attorney in solo general practice, with expertise that includes real estate transactions, business law, contracts and employment law. jmorris@reamn.org
Sarah Oppelt:
Sarah teaches Lab at River’s Edge. She received a M.A. degree from the University of Minnesota and has taught in several environmental high schools. During the summers, Sarah is an instructor with Wilderness Inquiry leading day
and extended outdoor trips, some along the Mississippi River. soppelt@reamn.org
Tom Matos:
Tom is the Dean of Student Development and Services at Saint Paul College. He brings experience in postsecondary education administration including Vassar College, New York Law School and University of San Francisco. He holds a MA from Haverford College and MS from Stanford University. Tom’s son attends River’s Edge Academy. tmatos@reamn.org
