Grading Policy

Grading Policy

REA maintains high expectations of our students in all areas of their life, including committing themselves to doing their best in their courses. Their teachers commit themselves to helping their students perform at their best.

Students check their progress weekly in Crew via the online Portal and final grades are given at the end of the quarter. Families can also view their student’s progress on the Parent Portal online. We encourage families to check this regularly to keep up on their student’s progress.

Instead of grouping grades by homework, tests, quizzes and participation; teachers at River’s Edge grade based on students’ knowledge of a learning target. Learning targets are groups of MN state standards phrased in ‘student friendly’ language. For example, “I can solve word problems using multiple strategies.” Student’s overall grade is decided upon the accumulation of the learning target grades.

Teachers grade students using a four-point scale. River’s Edge grades can be translated into letter grades that will generate a GPA. on all assignments and as a final grade. Students also participate in grading through self-assessment. Research has found, and our staff agree, that using a number, word and description to explain expectations before, during and after an assignment to be highly effective.

Students have multiple opportunities to submit their work, with feedback from peers and teachers guiding their revision process. Students will be expected to complete high-quality work. Therefore only work that meets or exceeds expectations will be accepted as finished. Other work will be incomplete until it is of acceptable quality. Students have the opportunity to revise work and receive full credit (based on the feedback provided by teachers) up until the end of the term.
