Our Board of Directors

Tom Matos: Board Chair- Tom is the Dean of Student Development and Services at Saint Paul College. He brings experience in postsecondary education administration including Vassar College, New York Law School and University
of San Francisco. He holds a MA from Haverford College and MS from Stanford University. Tom’s son attends River’s
Edge Academy. tmatos@reamn.org

Ken Hanson: Co-founder- Ken started in education with his B.S. in Comprehensive Science and then
M.A. in Secondary School Administration, both from St Cloud State University. Over the years of his career Ken has been a science teacher, principal and superintendent of several schools in Central Minnesota. He recently retired
from St Paul Schools where he had served for several years as Assistant Principal at Central High School. khanson@reamn.org

Jody Hurlbut: Treasurer- Jody is an accountant and brings experience in project management, tax accounting
and business analysis. He is a certified accountant and has a B.S. in Applied Management from National College. Jody’s
family lives on the west side of St. Paul and his son attends River’s Edge. jhurlbut@reamn.org

David Melvin: Dave teaches Humanities at River’s Edge. He is currently completing a Master’s in Education degree
at the University of Minnesota. Dave’s experience includes teaching and serving on the board at a local charter high school. dmelvin@reamn.org

Sarah Oppelt: Sarah teaches Lab at River’s Edge. She received a M.A. degree from the University of Minnesota and has taught in several environmental high schools. During the summers, Sarah is an instructor with Wilderness Inquiry leading day and extended outdoor trips, some along the Mississippi River. soppelt@reamn.org

Peg Skold: Before volunteering for ‘The Next Step’ at the Basilica, Peg was a pharmacist and has a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of MN. She is on the steering committee of the Outward Bound Twin Cities Center. Peg brings
a passion for juvenile justice and sustainable farming. pskold@reamn.org

Mary Beth Wyne:  Mary Beth received her MSW from the University of Minnesota and currently works as a psychotherapist and school social worker. Prior to her current positions Mary Beth spent six years working for Outward Bound as a wilderness instructor and course director. In her spare time she pursues wilderness and urban adventures in her canoe, on her bike or on a pair of skis. mwyne@reamn.org
